SCUBA DISCOVERY PROGRAM

For those who want to test the water and scuba dive this is the course for you! The SDI Scuba Discovery program gives you an insight into what you can expect to experience in the underwater world, as well as what you could expect to learn on the Open Water Scuba Diver course. During this experience program, you will go through basic safety to enjoy diving under the watchful eye of an active SDI instructor. You will learn skills such as ear equalization, buddy checking, basic buoyancy control, underwater communication, and more. You will also be given an introduction to basic diving equipment followed by an underwater tour of the local pool or marine environment.

Who is this course for:

  • Those who would like to experience the underwater world
  • Those who would like an introductory diving course before enrolling in the Open Water Scuba Diver course

Student Prerequisites:

  • Minimum age: 18 years old (10 years old with parental consent)
  • Demonstrate comfort and proper swimming skills

What you can expect to learn:

  •  The aquatic environment
      • marine environment
      • Marine life expected to be found at the local dive site
    • Basic description of physics/physiology and how it relates to diving
      • Buoyancy
      • Pressure
      • Equalization techniques (compensation)
    • Scuba Equipment Assembly

    • Taking the Open Water Scuba Diver SDI course

Some of the required skills that you will need to demonstrate include:

  • Pre-Dive Check
  • Remove and replace the ballast system on the surface
  • Equalization (compensation) of ears
  • Use of Buoyancy Compensation Device (BCD)
    • manual inflation
    • oral inflation
  • Buoyancy Control
    • controlled descent and ascent
  • Regulator Use
    • Breathing, emptying and recovery
  • Mask emptying
  • Underwater swimming; proper use of fins
  • Use of the computer
  • Use of instruments
  • underwater communication
